New Governments are Hard to Make! - Due Thursday
Directions: Read the scenario below. Come up with a solution and answer the question as best you can.
Scenario:
Each of the 13 States gets one representative to send to Congress. This person who represents the people from that state and votes on issues that affect all the states. However, some states have a very small population, while others have a large population. The large states don’t think this is fair and they want to have the number of Congressional representatives based on the number of people in the state. Virginia wants a plan that makes the number of representatives in Congress based on population. New Jersey thinks this will give too much power to Southern States and wants Congress to be based on one person per state.
Question:
What do you think? Should the national Congress, and the important decisions they make, be based on population or the number of states? Which one is more fair? Choose the best answer and explain your reasoning. (Minimum 5 sentences, due by Thursday November 4th)
